Maggie and Gary play ‘Mine Hosts’ at the Old House, Hereford during Carers Week 2014

This year’s Carers week was certainly a busy week with lots going on and the feedback that we have received from those of you who joined us on any, or in some cases, all the events and trips, has been very positive.  It would appear that the programme of events this year appealed to a large number of you and we will therefore endeavour to provide similar things throughout the coming year and certainly in Carers Week next year.  If anyone has any ideas for activities , events and outings, then please do get in touch with us by contacting your Support Worker, or by calling the office on 01432 356068.

On Tuesday 1oth June, a group of Carers set out to discover more about the history of our town.  The tour, planned and led by Barbara, one of our Family Support Workers began at the St John’s Medieval and Conningsby Museums.  The custodian John was very knowledgeable and the group enjoyed hearing the talk as well as a tour around the whole site, including the historic chapel .

Whilst wandering amongst the ruins and pretty rose gardens the sun was out and the sky was blue but unfortunately and true to form, the weather did not hold long enough to complete the trail in the manner intended.  However, two of our  energetic volunteers, Maggie and Gary managed to put a smile back on everyone’s face and help them forget the rain  by dressing up in period costume before greeting the group at the door of The Old House Jacobean Museum in High Town ,Hereford.

The group then continued the trail through the city (avoiding the puddles), stopping at some lesser known buildings to learn about their heritage and  the characters associated with their past.

The trail ended in Maggie’s beautiful garden where everyone enjoyed a delicious cream tea which was generously donated by Waitrose, Hereford. We would like to thank Maggie and her husband Bill for inviting us all in to their home and garden and for their help with the refreshments on the day, it is most appreciated.
