18 Jul Centre of Excellence – Carers Trust Quality Award
Everyone at Herefordshire Carers Support are both pleased and proud to say we have been approved a Carers Trust Quality Award ‘Centre of Excellence’ at level 2.
Summary of findings
Herefordshire Carers Support (HCS) submitted workbooks and evidence for Adults and Young Carers services. The Carers Trust Quality Award review included the desk top review and the site assessment visit on 20 April 2016.
HCS provides a range of services for adult carers including information and advice; emotional support; advocacy; a counselling service; Adult Carers Support Groups Parent Carers Coffee Mornings and training courses.
Work on supporting carers in employment is also a facet of the organisation’s services. This is being achieved by the Carers and Employment Project promoting training in partnership with the Job Centre and the Department for Work and Pensions.
Young Carers and Young Adult Carers (up to the age of 25) are supported by the small young carers team. Support includes one to one support; Young Carers clubs; activities and trips. Awareness raising, particularly with schools is an important area of work for HCS. Young Adult Carers are supported through one to one; groups and trips.
There is a comprehensive Carer Involvement Policy and Practice and this has been embedded into the organisation, providing consultation with carers on both the development of HCS services in line with carer requirements but also involvement in consultations and development of services for carers both locally and nationally. There is an Adult Carers Forum; the Parent Carers Voice and the Young Carers Forum.
The organisation works with a number of partnerships including Herefordshire Council; the local NHS Trusts and Taurus Healthcare. HCS now manages the local Healthwatch provision in the county. The Director and Senior Managers are also members of a number of strategic boards and committees influencing local policy decision making.
HCS has a website providing useful information. Leaflets and information seen is age appropriate and gave a clear indication of what services are available.
The desk top review and site assessment visit demonstrated that HCS deliver quality services for carers and work effectively with other agencies to improve support for carers.
