Many of you will be wondering whether Herefordshire Carers Support has been awarded the contract for the Carers Service in Herefordshire as from April 2018. Those of you who attended the Carers Rights Day event will know that we were awaiting the decision of the Council’s procurement exercise. In mid-December we received the following notification
After reviewing all of the information regarding this service it has been decided to abandon and withdraw the tender for the Carers Commissioning Service.
The reason for this is that the Council did not feel confident to award the tender to any of the organisations bidding. The decision was a surprise to us all but commissioners have indicated that more thought needs to go into how the possible provider might respond to what the council wants and they are taking time over the next months to consider what needs to happen next. However, the Council meanwhile intends to continue the Herefordshire Carers Support Service post April 2018 and we are hoping that the funding will be for a full year. There will inevitably be some changes but we are determined to maintain the high quality of service you have come to expect.
How Herefordshire Carers Support is changing to meet future challenges
Hopefully you will all now be aware that we are an association of Carers as well as a charity working for Carers. This means that every Carer signed up with Herefordshire Carers Support can choose to become a Full Member. As a Full Member you can speak and vote at the AGM on the appointment of Trustees and on other proposals e.g. for the direction of Herefordshire Carers Support’s work. We hope as many Carers as possible will become full Members. Anyone who is not a Carer but supports the work and ethos of Herefordshire Carers Support can become an Associate Member. Fellow organisations can become an affiliated Member.
