I Count Card'I Count' Card

Carer Michelle got in touch with us about a Carers identification cards. "It's a really good idea," said Michelle, "many places run concessions for Carers, but this can be awkward when you are caring for someone who does not have an obvious disability."

"Perhaps we could issue Carers cards; it might also help HCS negotiate discounts and concessions for Carers."

We thought this was a great idea, we had already heard from Carers who had been asked to prove their caring status to get concessions, and found this difficult. Thanks to support from Allpay Ltd, who provide swipe-card payment facilities for over 1,800 organisations, we are able to keep the cost of the card down to 17p per card, we think this is excellent value for money.

Our Carer Identification card, the 'I Count' acts as:-

  • our registration card - we want Carers to be proud of their caring status
  • a way of making it easier to get existing concessions for Carers
  • a way to get new concessions and discounts for Carers

The following concessions exist for all Carers; you can use your 'I Count' Card to show you are a Carer. Carers go free if accompanying the person they care for:-

  • Halo Leisure
  • The Courtyard, Hereford
  • National Trust
  • Holiday Inns - free extra adjoining rooms for carers if available
  • Most national attractions e.g. London Eye, Chessington World of Adventure,

Many other activities such as theatre or music events will also allow Carers free entry if accompanying the person they care for - ask.

Other Carer Concessions

  • Herefordshire Libraries - no hire charges or fines on books, DVD's computer games etc.
  • Cinemas support a national discount scheme, which entitles the holder (a disabled person) to one free ticket for the person accompanying them. This scheme is limited to those in receipt of Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance, or if registered blind. A card issued by the Cinema Exhibitors' Association must be presented, which cost £5.50. For more details tel 0845 123 1295.
