Adult Carer Development Workers

The role of the Adult Carer Development Workers is to support Carers in their caring role. We work across the whole of Herefordshire each with a specific geographical area and interest in either learning disabilities, mental health and older people. The work involves targeted awareness raising with organisations which might provide services for Carers, signposting Carers for carers assessments, helping Carers to adapt to lifestyle changes for both them and the people they provide care for. We also support Carers with contingency planning and identify training needs for carers to help them cope with the needs of the cared for.

I have a BA and a teaching certificate and developed and presented courses for the WEA called Second Chance to Learn. I was a trained debt counsellor and ran financial literacy courses for a variety of groups of people. I am used to negotiating and acting as an advocate for people who have difficulty accessing their rights. I am an invigilator at Hereford Sixth Form College, which is fun and in the distant past I was manager of Age Concern Hereford for a short time.
